GUD block construction results

Maebashi City Machinaka Square / Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture
Construction in March 2017
Maedashi City and Gunma University, who have declared "COOL CHOICE", are working together to implement the weeding effect, sprinkling effect, and deodorizing effect of GUD blocks. In September 2017, a GUD block was laid on about 9m170 of the 36m10 square, and it was opened to the public from October 1st along with the adjacent grass square.
Machinaka plaza is an event plaza managed by Maebashi City Machizukuri Corporation with the aim of regaining the bustle of the town, and is nicknamed "Hirose River Pocket Park". When the shopping district holds a sale, shops are lined up in this plaza as well as music events are held. There is also a ramen stall every Friday night.
Where the GUD blocks are spread, weeds still do not grow as expected. Also, according to Maebashi City's bustle commercial section and the town development public corporation, the water sprinkling effect in the summer is "to the extent that it feels like it has become cool," probably because the area is rather small.

"If the (effect) is noticeable, we would like to consider full-scale maintenance such as the central event plaza."
